There are two common types of eyeglasses.
- Single vision glasses: these are typically used to correct distance vision only or reading vision only.
- Multi-focal vision glasses: These glasses are made to correct both distance and near vision. They can be made as follows:
Bifocals – Two different lens corrections are put in glasses: top made for distance and bottom made for near.
Trifocal – the glasses are made with three different prescriptions for distance, intermediate and near vision.
Progressive Lens – These are like bifocals/trifocal; however there is a smooth transition between near, intermediate and distance vision and typically you do not see a line on the eyeglasses.
